Personal Reflection: Life, Decisions, And Our Struggles

Life:

Life is pretty unpredictable. We cannot be sure about the future. One moment you are standing on the railing of a bridge, the sky is clear, happily looking at the new moon, exulting, planning the future in your mind, and the next moment, your whole life has taken a new turn and suddenly, your balance is gone, you are on the other side of the bridge, clinging to the railing, very much on the verge of falling, and you do not even know how you will survive, there is no one on the bridge to help you and all the thoughts and dreams you made have vanished, and you are desperately clutching the same railing with a shred, a small piece of hope; That you will live with Allah’s will, Allah SWT will protect you, as He is the Only Wali(وَلِيّ) and Waali(الوالي), and there is no one else.
To know there is the Most Powerful, The Creator of everything behind you, as your Protector.
The thought alone can make you feel better.

Decisions:

Sometimes when it comes to making difficult decisions, you remain stressed, weeks go by, months pass by, and you are unfocused, and your brain is still numb, unable to understand. Tick-tock. Tick-tock. Time is moving fast. Or is it you who is trying to go fast?

Sometimes people expect to take the challenge, that life is all about bad decisions, but is it? You do not jump in the fire only to get a thrill cause you either jump to save someone or to learn how to save someone in a life-threatening situation.

Solution: Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, the hadith outlines the story of a Bedouin man who was leaving his camel without tying it. The Prophet (PBUH) asked him “Why don’t you tie down your camel?” The Bedouin answered, “I put my trust in Allah.” The Prophet then replied, “Tie your camel first, and then put your trust in Allah.”

When we cannot make decisions, we should do three things:

1-Make dua (prayer).
2-Work on your priorities.
3- Let go of the illusion of control. You cannot solve all the problems in one day and certainly cannot decide in one night. So all you can do is focus on today and let go of the future.

Our Struggles:

Your struggles make you a new person, teach you lessons, also show you new faces. When my father was alive, I used to complain about life and struggles to him, and my father used to say, Struggles are specifically for humans; you have no choice but to go through them.

Life Goes On:

Yes, life continues, not without us, but with us. The day life leaves us behind will be our last day on earth. But even then, we will not remain in the same place. Our souls will move on to the next phase; the court of God.
So you don’t have to worry about being left alone.
As Robert Frost, the American poet, famously stated, In three words, I can sum up everything I have learned about life: it goes on.
